The Countdown is On

Oscars

Lovely warm weather welcomed me to LA and the week that lies ahead. It’s the 83rd Annual Academy Awards and there are only a few more days to go until Oscar Sunday. I went to Hollywood and Highland to see the “before” side of the whole shebang – before it becomes the glitzy spectacle that turns it into the biggest night on the movie calendar.

At Hollywood and Highland, both tourists and technicians can be seen about the surrounds, walking and working respectively. In the next few days the Kodak Theatre and the area around it will all morph into the glitz and glam we see on TV.

There are quite a few stories I am looking forward to finding out more about – like whether or not Banksy will make an appearance at the ceremony (his work certainly has been popping up all over LA), and how Colin Firth’s wife Livia will look in her Fairtrade gold Oscar dress. There’s a lovely story about a couple, who are up both up for their work on a short film that’s been nominated, and how they came together while working on the project that the romantic in me is eager to learn more about.

Aside from the Oscar madness, I will be keeping you posted on other such things, like another alien flick directed by a South Africa born director – Battle: LA – as well as an exciting project that will be part of the 9/11 memorial opening. These stories have their roots here, and you’ll soon find out why.

In the meantime, take a look at how co-hosts Anna Hathaway and James Franco are preparing for the big night:
