The VMAs were pretty much overshadowed by the news that Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting a li’l Bey-by. The highlight of the show – aside from Adele’s aching rendition of Someone Like You, Jay and Ye lighting up the stage, Gaga as her alter-ego Jo Calderone and Chris Brown fly-dancing above the stage - was when Bey finished her performance of Love On Top by opening her jacket and rubbing her belly, while her hubby looked at her lovingly from the audience.
Britney Spears won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, while Tony Bennet paid tribute to Amy Winehouse by showing a video clip of his duet with the late singer, Heart and Soul. Having Bruno Mars, who was busted for cocaine possession in February, perform Valerie, was perhaps not the best way to honour her, what with everyone harping on about her drug habit.
