The saying goes something like, mother knows best, and I realized just how true this is when I walked out of JFK Airport and into the New York air. On my stopover at Heathrow, my mom – having lived in England for the past 9 years and therefore possessing an intimate knowledge of cold – brought some essentials for me. In South Africa, we do not know cold! I naively thought I would just head on out to a store and stock up as soon as I got here. But of course, one needs to be dressed appropriately to buy the appropriate dress. So it was with gratitude in my step and a deeper appreciation for my mom that I bounded into a taxi for 6 Columbus, my hotel for the night, with this gorgeously welcoming view!
