The Rundown

Entertainment Express: The Tony Awards, Governors Ball, Maya Angelou, Fault in Our Stars

Hello from JFK – off to LA to interview the director of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

* Hugh Jackman played fabulous host for the Tony Awards – as Bryan Cranston and Neill Patrick Harris, his fellow do-it-all pals, picked up top honours. Cranston’s All the Way scored best play, while A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder and A Raisin in the Sun got best musical and best revival, respectively.

* Jack White, The Strokes, Skrillex and Vampire Weekend made this past weekend’s Governors Ball a success, with tight, full-bodied sets that reverberated throughout Randall’s Island, the setting for the 3-day event. Thank heavens the sun played along too – not a rain cloud in sight after last year’s mud-out.

* Maya Angelou was given a moving send-off during a memorial service on Saturday – the First Lady, Oprah and Bill Clinton all paid tribute to the late, great poet.

* The Fault in Our Stars, as expected, performed very well at the box office, beating off so-called last great movie star Tom Cruise.

* Comedian Tracy Morgan is critical
but ‘responsive’ in hospital, following a car crash in New Jersey.
