Entertainment Express: The Hobbit 2, Academy Awards, MIA, Tilda Swinton, Lady Gaga,

New York has a new mayor – welcome to office, Mayor De Blasio! Meanwhile, on the entertainment front, we have new songs to hear…

* After a global fan event for The Hobbit 2, a new trailer has been released – and with it, a new single from Ed Sheeran, who seems ever so destined to have recorded a song for the film, called I See Fire. Not surprising to learn, the singer played all the instruments on the track, including the violin, which he learnt to play for a day.

* 19 films have been submitted to the Academy Awards for the animated feature film category. The films hoping to make it to the shortlist of 5 nominations include Despicable Me 2, The Croods, Frozen and Khumba, from South African animation house Trigger Fish.

* M.I.A.‘s fourth album, Matangi, is out this week – the title coming from her birth name, Mathangi Arulpragasam. It’s also been confrirmed by Indiewire that a doccie about the controversial yet fascinating artist, featuring the likes of Spike Jonze and Kanye West is back on the go.

* Lady Gaga‘s album Artpop isn’t officially out, but Little Monsters can stream it on iTunes Radio until next week, when it is.

* Tilda Swinton returned to MoMA on Tuesday night, not to sleep in a box again, but to celebrate her 53rd birthday. Dozens of big names, including outgoing NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg, came out to honour the Oscar-winning actress and her contribution to cinema.
