The Rundown

Entertainment Express: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bruno Mars, New Girl, Woody Allen, U2

* An autopsy is expected to be done later today to find out the exact cause of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s death at the age of 46. Meanwhile, tribute to the “actor’s actor” has been paid all over the world, including at the school he once attended.

* Bruno Mars was never going to have an easy job of filling the Super Bowl Halftime stage after Beyonce last year – no one was, really – but the recent Grammy winner did an admirable one, thanks to his super energy and even more super-cool threads (courtesy Saint Laurent). A dash of Red Hot Chili Peppers thrilled some, others not so much, but for Bruno, new-found fame among a different set of fans is surely to follow.

* New Girl gained a whole bunch of new fans on Sunday night, thanks to an episode featuring the series’ biggest fan, Prince. Not only did The Purple One help Jess (Zooey Deschanel) through some love lessons, but he also debuted a new song, PretzelBodyLogic, and Zooey got to eat his pancakes and duet with him. Lucky [New] Girl.

* Woody Allen has responded to the sexual abuse claims made by his daughter Dylan Farrow on Saturday in an open letter published in the New York Times. So too, has Best Actress nominee Cate Blanchett, who was also addressed in the letter. The matter has come back into the public spotlight since the director’s Golden Globe honour, and it remains to be seen if it will ever be resolved, dividing Hollywood into those who defend/support Allen and those who don’t.

* During the Super Bowl, U2 premiered a sliver of a new song that can be downloaded for free, in aid of the RED campaign. It’s called Invisible, and for every download, Bank of America will give $1 to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
