The Rundown

Entertainment Express: Pharrell, Annie, MTV Movie Awards, Big Boi, SXSW

* Pharrell Williams‘ new album has been the soundtrack to the past week of Oscar craziness for me and many of my colleagues, and his track Happy has held onto the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a second week in a row, thanks to a three-pronged attack: sales, airplay and streaming.

* We get to see Oscar-nominated young actress Quvenzhané Wallis as little orphan Annie and Cameron Diaz as bossy Miss Hannigan in the trailer that’s just been released. Looks like it could be a fun remake of the classic – complete with George Clooney jokes and a-suited-up-Jamie Foxx as our Daddy Warbucks character.

* Big Boi has put out a Game of Thrones-inspired track called Mother of Dragons, appropriately, for a mixtape from the HBO hit series.

* The 2014 MTV Movie Awards have been announced – with American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street leading the pack, holding 8 nominations each.

* SXSW kicks off on Friday – when the film, interactive and music worlds come together, for the next 10 days in Austin, Texas. The lineup this year features keynote addresses from the likes of Girls creator Lena Dunham and Chelsea Clinton, and virtual discussions with Julian Assange and Edward Snowden.
