Entertainment Express: Eminem, Lou Reed, Divergent, Andy Warhol, Don Cheadle

Hello from New York, where one can drink mulled wine inside a Christmas tree to make one feel better about the cold…

* Eminem may not be generating the kind of heat he used to, but he doesn’t seem to have lost any of his clout on the charts, despite his being away from them for some time. His new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and scored the second-largest sales week of the year, coming in behind Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience in March (feels like aaages ago).

* A public memorial will be held in New York for Lou Reed today – in a style that many say would have suited him best: no eulogies, no performances, just recordings of his songs being played.

* A trailer for the latest youth-oriented movie series, Divergent has been released. Shailene Woodley stars in the new franchise based upon the bestselling novel by Veronica Roth, in which people are divided into factions depending on their personalities. We’ll find out what happens when Ms Woodley, discovers she literally doesn’t fit in, come March next year.

* It seems to be a record week for selling art! Or perhaps just for Christie’s in NYC, but a 1963 Andy Warhol painting that captures the immediate aftermath of a car crash, titled Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster), has sold for $105 million, breaking the record for the celebrated pop artist.

* This should be good – Don Cheadle will soon play Miles Davis in a film he’s been co-writing about the famed jazz artist, titled Kill The Trumpet Player, alongside Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana.

Ooh, and as an added bonus, Wes Anderson has given us a short film online, while we wait for his Budapest Hotel to open.
