Entertainment Express: Sherman Hemsley, Christian Bale, Modern Family, Jennifer Hudson, Firefly Music Festival

 

* The entertainment world is paying tribute to Sherman Hemsley, aka George Jerfferson, who died at the age of 74 on Tuesday.

* Christian Bale met with some of the victims of the Aurora movie theater shooting on Tuesday, in his own capacity, while donations for the fund to help those affected have reached around $2 million dollars.

* The cast of the Emmy-winning, laugh-a-minute hit show, Modern Family is taking its pay-rise dispute to court.

* Jennifer Hudson’s former brother in law has been sentenced to life in prison for killing the Grammy-winning star’s mother, brother and nephew.

* The Firefly Music Festival, held for the first time this past weekend, has confirmed it’ll be back for more next year.

The 63rd Emmy Awards…aka The One Where FNL Gets Some Love

It was a night featuring a made-for-TV-with-TV stars a capella group called “The Emmytones” and an apparent white-flag moment from Charlie Not-Winning-So-Much Sheen. There were few surprises – except where Friday Night Light Fans are concerned – with Modern Family, Mad Men and Kate Winslet winning the awards we knew they would win (yes. Kate, we see don’t believe you didn’t believe it).

Last year’s Best Drama, Mad Men, has 19 nominations, while 2010′s Best Comedy, Modern Family has notched up 17 nominations. Giving Mad Men a run for its money is the Prohibition-era set, Steve Buscemi-starring Boardwalk Empire, with 18 nominations. The miniseries Mildred Pierce, starring Oscar-winner Kate Winslet, has the most at 21.
