    The Rundown: The Grammys, The Golden Globes and Frank Sinatra

    Hello from New York City! Well, actually hello from New Jersey. I took myself across the Hudson River to Hoboken to check out a few Sinatra-inspired sights, on account of what would have been Ol’ Blue Eyes’ 100 birthday. This week has been the kick-start of awards season nominations, with the SAGs and Golden Globes nods being announced. There were quite a few suprises and snubs, but Carol scooped 5 Globe nods – with its stars Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett both scoring Best Actress noms.     Boyhood at the Golden Globes

    Cue Hero the theme song that plays during the masterpiece that is Boyhood, this year’s Golden Globe winner for Best Picture in the Drama category. This film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January last year, so it seems a little like it’s been around for ever and has been overhyped a lot. Well, it may feel that way, but it’s an extraordinary film, and director Richard Linklater is indeed a hero, a visionary, for sticking with it for 12 years, and giving us a film with a giant heart, so much vulnerability and a kick-ass soundtrack.     The 2014 Golden Globes

    Steve McQueen’s beaming smile after winning Best Film, Drama at the Golden Globes (courtesy of the Golden Globes Instagram account), is as wide as it should be.  The 12 Years A Slave director has made a moving, artistic piece of cinematic history. The night’s other top prize, in the ‘Comedy’ category, went to American Hustle, which also scored Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, respectively.  Dallas Buyers Club earned Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto Best Actor, Drama and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
