Oprah Winfrey makes her return to the big screen after a 15 year absence in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which releases in South Africa this weekend. She says it’s because of the filmmaker Lee Daniels, who also made the 6-time Oscar-nominated Precious that she agreed to, in the midst of her challenges in getting OWN off the ground, make the movie. She plays a chain-smoking, shot-drinking, yet supportive wife to Forest Whitaker’s character, Cecil Gaines, who is based on the real-life butler that served 8 presidencies at the White House. And she does such a good job of it, you do actually forget you’re watching ‘Oprah’.
