Love At First Bite

To the people around me I must look like a giddy school-girl, grinning and giggling to myself, as I walk these streets. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s only because it’s as if I have been reunited with a lost love. Up until now, as I’ve mentioned previously, I had been having a long-distance love affair – yearning to be back in the city that had captured my heart. And now that I am, I can hardly believe it!

The route that I walk to get to the subway is filled with this simple, little message. Sometimes it’s written on the sidewalk (pavement) in various spots, other times it’s evident elsewhere, like here in this garbage (rubbish) heap. It’s the perfect reminder that I’m so lucky to be doing what I want – and in following my dream I am becoming it!

Little messages like this are one reason I love the City.

Shall I count some of the rest of the ways I love it?

I love that the streets are filled with amazing buildings and architecture that tells stories. There are the obvious ones, like the Chrysler and the Empire State Buildings, but there are others too, like this one in Chelsea.

This is a green-living-inspired building, from Neil M.Denari Architects, which is a mix of gallery space and condominiums.

I love that there is popular culture all around me, and important landmarks that draw attention to cultural and social events.

This week saw the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's assassination. It's reported the late musician loved New York and walked these streets without bodyguards or an entourage.
I love that I can go shopping outside of the usual 9am-5pm time and that there is always a 24-hour pharmacy if I should ever need it nearby (never underestimate the usefulness of this!).

Who's up for calling a spade, a spade?

One of the main reasons I love the City is because of the nightlife,┬áthe theatre, the music, the movies, the art! It’s a smorgasbord, if you will, of all the stuff I live for!

And I am sure I shall soon discover even more reasons to fall in love with New York City all over again!
