The Rundown

Entertainment Express: Jay-Z and Pearl Jam, Hal David, Telluride, Venice Film Festival, The Dark Knight Rises

* The Pearl Jam / Jay-Z collaboration we didn’t know was coming, happened at the Made in America festival in Philadelphia this past weekend. Both the rapper and band made mention of the upcoming US elections at the event too.

* The Venice Film Festival is hitting the halfway-point, before the Toronto Film Festival gets underway, and so far, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Shannon have been drawing critical acclaim.

* Meanwhile, at the Telluride Film Festival, Ben Affleck’s CIA thriller Argo has been getting tongues wagging.

* A private memorial is being planned for Hal David, the Oscar-and Grammy-winning prolific lyricist who gave the world songs like What’s New, Pussycat? and What Do You Get When You Fall in Love?, who died at 91 in LA this past weekend.

* The Dark Knight Rises has become the 13th film ever to cross the $1 billion dollar mark – bringing in more box office takings from the international market than US one.
