The Rundown

Entertainment Express: Foo Fighters, Hercules, Jupiter Ascending, Lauren Beukes

* Even though we’re only just getting started with Summer, the 8-part HBO series Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways is something to look forward to. Dubbed by frontman Dave Grohl as a ‘musical map of America’, the show will explore the musical heritage of 8 cities, on the eve of the band’s 8th album release.

* Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson can add battling – and skinning – lions to his resume with the new trailer for Hercules. Just as you’d expect the action hero is put through his paces in the Brett Ratner movie, coming out in July.

* Channing Tatum’s other big film of the year – next to 22 Jump Street and Foxcatcher, Jupiter Ascending, has been moved to next year. It was meant to be released next month, but The Hollywood Reporter quotes “insider sources” saying the film needs more special effects done to it. Perhaps it will benefit from being released during a quieter time, but I’m still keenly interested to see the outcome of pairing the Wachowski siblings (The Matrix) with Tatum’s star quality.

* The UK and US book covers for author Lauren Beukes’ new novel have been released on the net. The follow-up to her previous work, The Shining Girls, which time-travelled from Chicago, the South African writer sets her new book, Broken Monsters, in Detroit, and it’s due out in July.
