Hello from Los Angeles, where it’s so sunny, I may just never go back home to NYC…

* LA hosted the fifth annual installment of The Governors Awards this past Saturday night, bestowing honorary Oscars to Steve Martin, Angela Lansbury and costume designer Piero Tosi, and giving the Jean Herscholt humanitarian award to Angelina Jolie. Many reports have been noting that this once small-time soiree intended to help speed up the Oscars telecast has now become a must-stop for would-be Oscar nominees.

* Nobel Prize-winning author Doris Lessing died at the age of 94 on Sunday. A formidable spirit – who can ever forget the video that captured her response to the news that she’d won the Nobel Literature Prize in 2007 – she authored around 40 books, including The Golden Notebook, and various collections of essays and memoirs.

* It didn’t beat Thor, but The Best Man Holiday scored an unexpected coup at the box office this past weekend, soaring some 50% above forecasts with its $30.6 million earnings.

* Lady Gaga hosted and performed on SNL this Saturday, playing a version of herself in the future, singing her own rendition of the classic New York, New York and duetting with R.Kelly.
