* Providing some of the best entertainment around, this year’s Olympics have made Michael Phelps the most decorated Olympian in history – with 19 medals, 15 of those gold. He did, however, lose out on gold in the 200m butterfly. That victory belonged to South African swimmer – 20-year-old Chad Le Clos.

* Author, playwright, screenwriter Gore Vidal has died at the age of 86.

* The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected a new president, Wayne’s World and Collateral Damage producer Hawk Koch, who’ll oversee the Oscars and other such important business.
