Pyrotechnics, two faces in the shape of her likeness, some star-powered hologram treatment and a whole lot of signature booty-shaking – that’s how Beyonce won the SuperBowl.
Even before the moment the singer’s svelte self strutted – make that strode – onto the halftime stage at Sunday’s Super Bowl, it was already a clear fact Beyonce’s appearance was the most anticipated aspect of this year’s game. She’s already known for putting on a no-holds-barred show, something I was lucky enough to experience when she filmed her DVD at the Roseland Ballroom in 2011, but this is the Super Bowl so it was always going to require a little bit more. The upset over her pre-recorded singing at the Inauguration added just a little bit more to that more. And so, after two weeks of controversy and four months of preparation, Beyonce out-performed Beyonce with a fierceness that seemed to be targeted directly at her critics.
And as if that wasn’t enough, she then announced the Mrs Carter World Tour. And by world she means Europe and North America. No word yet on whether more dates will be added later.
As for the adverts that made their debut during the SuperBowl, I found the Budweiser Clydesdales one hard to resist. Can’t go wrong with Stevie Nicks singing Landslide, a baby horse, his cute owner and an adorable reunion.
And kudos to South African actor Fana Mokoena who appeared in the trailer for the upcoming World War Z, alongside Brad Pitt. The film’s release date varies from country to country, starting from around June onwards.
