Beyonce attended the launch of her Live from Roseland DVD at the Paris Theatre in New York City last night, a radiant and glowing figure. The expectant mother was positively beaming in a gorgeous black gown that hugged her baby bump, with gold accessories to finish the regal look.
While watching the DVD (with a theatre-full to fans who responded as if it was the actual show and not a recording) I just couldn’t help notice all the ways Beyonce hid the fact that she was pregnant. As one of the people in the audience for the first night of the concert it made me wonder, how did we miss it?
How did we miss the way she kept putting down the top part of her silver top every time the onstage fan blew it up? How did we not see the way her stomach protruded ever so slightly out from the little hole in the front of her outfit? How did we miss the moment in End of Time when she sang ‘I’ll be your baby’, holding her stomach?
The answer is, because there was nothing to suggest this was anything other than a killer Beyonce show. She said during a Q&A before the screening that she was really worried the audience would find out, but it’s safe to say – with all the shaking, shuffling, jumping and dancing Beyonce did – no one was any the wiser.
Instead, what we have is something that will become a time capsule for Baby BeyJay. It’s the stage show and so much more. Video clips of intimate moments in the life of Queen B – from intimate video messages sent to Jay-Z, to a touching meeting with a young male fan that enhances Irreplaceable, and behind-the-scenes footage of the singer getting down at a birthday party. It’s all there – including a shot of her hush-hush wedding dress from three years ago and some really lovely shots of Beyonce with Madiba, always a treat.
