Entertainment Express: Bjork, Amazon, Kristen Wiig, Bonnaroo, Dior

Hello – I’m feeling nostalgic as the 2014 World Cup prepares to kick off, thinking about when Shakira, John Travolta, Andrea Bocelli, John Legend and so many others joined South Africa in the celebrations. 

* Bjork‘s Biophilia has been inducted into the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection – the first app to ever to have this honour. The Icelandic singer’s project, which featured games and interactive versions of songs on the album, was the first app to be made for an album release, so it’s only fitting that Bjork be recognized for this achievement of art.

* Amazon is set to release its streaming service this week, joining the likes of Spotify and Beats, but, it appears, without the clout that these other services have. According to the NYT, the service, which will be available for Amazon Prime subscribers, will only offer thousands of songs, not millions, and won’t have most new releases.

* Kristen Wiig will direct her first movie, and she’ll be working again with her Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumolo on the script. “We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave,” the two women said in a statement, quoted in the NYT. “We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.” Bridesmaids is still a milestone for women in movies, costing around 32 million to make and bringing in over 280 million at the box office. I’m excited to see the comedy these women come up with next. 

* More than 90 000 people will spend their weekend on a farm in Tennessee for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, kicking off today. Elton John and Kanye West will be headlining, and a whole bunch of artists like Lionel Ritchie and Lauryn Hill will be performing too. There’ll be comedy shows and movie screenings to, just to increase the FOMO those of us not going will feel.

Dior released a video for their latest fragrance campaign, directed by Harmony Korine (the man who gave us Springbreakers last year), and it features a remix of the Die Antwoord track Enter the Ninja. With Yo-landi and Ninja having just released their latest album, complete with a vicious pitbull music video, this song and the debut album it’s from, really do seem tame in comparison.
